The GoodWe ESA 5kW All-In-One System

Video Source: GoodWe

At Fusion Sun Solar, we understand that Perth families are looking for a straightforward way to beat rising energy costs without turning their garage into a massive construction site. That is why the GoodWe ESA 5kW All-in-One system has become such a popular choice. Think of it as a sleek "Power Tower" that neatly integrates your inverter, battery modules, and energy management technology all into one pre-wired, weather proof cabinet.

Before we dive into the technical details, let's figure out which Power Tower fits your home's setup.

The GoodWe ESA 5kW system is versatile enough to support both connections. The main difference is simply the "engine" (the inverter) placed inside the cabinet depending on your connection type.

Quick Interactive Check: Which size do you need?

  • 16kWh: Do you have a standard family home with a gas cooktop? This is your entry point for whole-home backup.
  • 24kWh: Do you run a pool pump or have kids who leave every light on? This is the "Goldilocks" size for average Perth families.
Quick Check: Single-Phase or Three-Phase?

Take a quick look at your home's main switchboard.

  • Single-Phase: If you see one main switch, you are likely on a single-phase connection, which is typical for most residential streets in Perth.
  • Three-Phase: If you see three switches linked together, you have three-phase power. This is perfect for handling heavy electrical loads like ducted air conditioning or fast charging an electric vehicle.

The Brain: 5kW Power Module (Inverter)

Whether you are on a single-phase or three-phase setup, the 5kW inverter is designed to manage your solar production and battery usage with incredible efficiency.

Why the ESA 5kW All-In-One System is Perfect for Perth

    • Whole-Home Backup: The ESA features a 63A internal bypass passthrough as a standard feature right out of the box. This allows it to support your entire home's load during a blackout without needing extra gateway hardware. Just keep in mind that your total power draw during an outage must stay within the inverter's limits.
    • Modular Scalability: If you start with a 16kWh stack and realize you need more capacity, you can simply "slide in" up to 6 modules per tower (giving you up to 48kWh total) without rewiring the system.
    • Perth Weather Ready: The system includes integrated heating to maintain top performance during those frosty winter mornings in the Perth Hills. It is also fully IP66 rated to effortlessly handle our summer dust and heavy storms.
    • Safety First: Beyond the standard electrical protections, the ESA unit is packed with AI driven arc fault detection (AFCI 3.0). Furthermore, every battery module features its own integrated aerosol fire suppression system for total peace of mind.

    Frequently Asked Questions

Ready to power your Perth home with the GoodWe ESA 5kW All-in-One system?

From navigating Western Australian rebates to ensuring the battery holds up against our local climate and checking stock availability, there is a lot to consider. Luckily, you don't have to figure it out alone! We are Fusion Sun Solar, your local solar experts, and we've answered your biggest questions below.

What hardware actually makes up a "5kW 16kWh or 24kWh" setup?

Wondering what's inside the box? The "brains" of the operation is the GW5K-EHA-G20 single-phase hybrid inverter. For the physical storage, we use heavy duty, high voltage GW8.3-BAT-D-G20 modules.

    • 16kWh Option: You get two of these battery modules, giving you about 16.0kWh of usable energy.
    • 24kWh Option: Need more? This option packs in three modules for around 24.0kWh of usable power.
Can a 5kW system really back up my whole house?

It sure can! You might think a 5kW inverter sounds a bit small for a whole house backup, but the ESA series has a great trick up its sleeve: an internal 63A bypass passthrough. This means during a blackout, the system can seamlessly support a huge chunk of your home's regular power load without you needing to completely rewire your switchboard or buy expensive extra gateway boxes.

How much solar can I actually connect to the 5kW inverter?

You can go big! The 5kW ESA inverter handles up to 200% PV oversizing. In plain English, that means you can hook up an impressive 10kW of solar panels directly to it. This is absolutely perfect for our Perth winters, it guarantees your 16kWh or 24kWh battery stack has enough juice to reach a full charge, even when the days are short and cloudy.

How fast will these batteries charge from my solar?

Lightning fast! These high voltage modules feature a 1C charge and discharge rate, which makes them incredibly efficient. If you have enough solar pumping in (like from a 10kW array on a sunny day), you can theoretically charge the 16kWh stack from empty to full in just about 2 hours, and the larger 24kWh stack in roughly 3 hours.

Is it safe to install this on my patio or in my garage?

Absolutely. The entire unit is IP66 rated, meaning it is completely sealed against dust and heavily protected against rain. Outdoor installations are no problem at all! However, the main thing you need to plan for is the weight. Here are the true numbers:

    • The 5kW inverter weighs 24 kg.
    • Each 8.32kWh battery module weighs 79 kg.
    • Total Weight: A 16kWh setup (inverter + two batteries) comes in at approximately 182 kg. If you step up to the 24kWh setup, you are looking at roughly 261 kg total.
    • Because of this serious weight, you definitely need to install the unit on a reinforced concrete slab or plinth, timber decking or loose pavers just won't cut it.
Does the system make much noise when it's working hard?

Not at all! The battery sections use natural convection cooling (which means no noisy fans). This keeps the operating noise well below 30 decibels. To put that in perspective, that is quieter than a whisper or your local library. You will barely even notice it is there.

What happens to the battery during a Perth heatwave or cold snap?

These units are built tough to handle extreme weather, with a safe discharging range from -20°C all the way up to a scorching 55°C. It even features integrated heating as a standard inclusion. If we get a frosty morning in the Perth Hills, the battery will literally warm itself up to optimal temperatures before it even starts accepting a charge.

    What is the warranty coverage?

You're fully covered. The GoodWe ESA system includes a rock solid 10 year manufacturer warranty that protects both the inverter and the battery modules. Plus, when you work with us at Fusion Sun Solar, we complement this with an equal workmanship guarantee to cover any labor or service needs you might have down the track.
